Providing food is critically important and a moral duty, but addressing root causes of hunger is every bit as important. With this in mind, the Project Host Community Culinary School in 2003. The effort has transformed the lives of people by offering training to unemployable and underemployed women and men to prepare them for careers in the food service industry by teaching them culinary arts and life skills. In the twelve week program, students develop valuable life and professional skills including goal establishment, conflict management, budgeting, resume writing and interviewing skills to help them gain and sustain employment after successful completion of the program. The program is offered free of charge to those in need.
A program such as this represents the opportunity of a lifetime for people who have been down and out for much of their lives. By turning them into productive, contributing members of our community, we're helping to turn Greenville into an even better place to live, work, and raise our children. And that is something we should all hunger for.
