Community Culinary School

Feeding people is a great way to help them. But wouldn’t we be helping more if we taught them to feed themselves? That’s exactly the thought process behind our new Community Culinary School – a real-life classroom where participants learn the skills they need to get meaningful jobs in the food service industry, from some of the finest chefs in the region. The in-depth, 12-week course covers every aspect of the industry. Food handling. Kitchen safety. Preparing gourmet meals. Staffing skills. And everything in between. But it doesn’t stop there. In addition to food service skills, they also learn things like how to work well with others. Ethical conduct. And workplace etiquette. There’s even a highly structured attendance policy that teaches responsibility and dedication. So, they not only learn how to get the job, but also how to keep it. Job placement, career counseling and follow-up interviews with our graduates ensure they continue to exhibit high levels of professionalism.

A program such as this represents the opportunity of a lifetime for people who have been down and out for much of their lives. By turning them into productive, contributing members of our community, we're helping to turn Greenville into an even better place to live, work, and raise our children. And that is something we should all hunger for.
