Greenville, SC – May 21, 2021 – Project Host is the recipient of a $50,000 Greenville Women Giving grant that will be used to renovate its 25-year-old soup kitchen. The award is one of 11 grants issued this year by Greenville Women Giving for a total of $550,000 awarded to Greenville area non-profits.

For 40 years, Project Host has served the Greenville community by fighting food insecurity through free meal and training programs. The nonprofit hosts six interconnected programs, including a soup kitchen and child feeding program, culinary school, garden and greenhouse, and two social enterprises. The building in which the soup kitchen is housed is 25 years old and in need of renovations after seeing near-daily use to prepare between 600 and 700 meals each week.

“The Greenville Women Giving grant is a huge step forward in Project Host’s effort to revitalize the full soup kitchen building,” says Project Host CEO Tobin Simpson. “The kitchen has seen a lot of wear and tear over the past several decades, and in order for us to continue to serve populations in need for another 40 years and to create a welcoming, safe environment for volunteers and guests alike, we need to update our physical spaces. We’re so grateful to Greenville Women Giving for investing in our organization and mission in such a significant way.”

Project Host is also grateful to First Baptist Greenville, the Sisk Foundation, the Dabos All In Team Foundation, and the Rotary Club of Greenville City Center for contributing funds to this project for new appliances and kitchen equipment.
